Somebody Wants to Cuddle!

You know, when Heather first saw your friend in the kitchen, it didn't bother me that much. I thought we could live together in peace; you keep to your dark corners and we to ours. Then when I saw him in the cupboard under the sink, still, I was ready to go to bed, and I didn't care if he hung out near our trash. But when you scuttled your way from my backpack, across the room, and into my bed while I was laying on it, I stopped being fine with you. You think because you are nearly as big as a rat that you can just take over the room I paid for? Well I have news for you: you can.

I was run out of my hotel room by cockroaches. Part of me feels pathetic, but I so didn't know they came that big.

It was at my hotel in the trashy pit of civilization that is Agia Napa. I would have stayed on the floor of someone else's room, except that all the rooms at our hotel were infested with ants and cockroaches. There were GLSers at other (FAR nicer) hotels, but I didn't want to deal with hauling over at midnight. I was also too badly sunburned to physically or emotionally handle how hot it was in the room (no AC), so that girl Heather and I got a taxi back home to Nicosia. The group was leaving at noon the next day, but our only good prospect was to sit and be pestered by mosquitoes at the pool all night. I'm so glad we left. And the size of that bitch - I can't even talk about it; I'm too traumatized.

Okay, so we’re sitting in the living room, Dave and me and kittycat. I am on the blue couch and Dave is in the white chair (yes this is unusual, but I am now just getting to reading the Sunday paper because Taylor arrived this morning when we were reading it). I read out loud to Dave a question that was asked in the parade magazine, an important question: Is it true that Jennifer Aniston is half-Greek?

So before you read on, what do you think?

Well it turns out her father’s real name is Ioannes Anastassakis (John Aniston) and that he plays Victor Kiriakis on, yes, Days of our Lives. Well, not only that, but Telly Sevales (also Greek) was her godfather. So I tell Dave this and we enjoy it all, then return to our reading. The very next sentence in his novel is about a place in Greece and so he tells me this. And I say isn’t that all amazing since Kirsten is on Greek Cyprus and then Dave tells me that right before he came up and sat in the white chair to read (yes the one I mentioned earlier) he had looked at the map in the TV room to see CYPRUS!

It’s all absolutely true.
Kitty cat is sitting on the white stool looking rather standoffish, unimpressed.

Just thought you should know that you are in our thoughts and that I’m glad you got away from the cochroaches. Mommy Haynes

Cockroaches - yuck! You bring back memories of when your mom, Marie and I were living in Texas and there were all kinds of "huge" roaches...I don't think we ever got used to them!
Love, auntie ann

a) Oh, sorry. I realized that there was a wealth of hilarious possibilities for the acronym, but I'll keep them to myself and give you the boring true one: Global Learning Semesters is the name of the company/program we Americans are all on here. Maybe if you loved me you would have known that. (Unless you aren't who I think you are, then it's okay.)
b) Victor is Jennifer Aniston's dad!!! Wow Mom, I'm so glad your spending your time researching the important stuff! :) Tell Taylor I say hi!
c) Aunt Ann, I'm so pleased you're around! Looks like I won't be moving to Texas EVER. Tell your (well my too) family I say hello!
